Very fine and rare, self-winding, water-resistant , 18K yellow gold gentleman's chronometer wristwatch, with cloisonné enamel dial. Accompanied by the original fitted box and certificate.

M. 11 1/2??? rhodium, 26 jewels, lever escapement, monometallic balance, self-compensating flat balance-spring. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 37 mm. Thickness 9mm.

Amerigo Vespucci (March 9, 1454 -February 22, 1512) was an Italian merchant, explorer and cartographer who made two voyages to explore the east coast of South America between 1499 and 1502. He discovered that South America extended much further south than was previously thought, and he deduced that it was part of a continent. Vespucci became widely known in Europe when two accounts attributed to him were published between 1502 and 1504. In 1507, Martin Waldseemüller produced a map in which he named the new continent "America", after Vespucci's first name, Amerigo.
