Notes
Tissot calibre 28.5-21T movement, manufactured from 1944 to 1953. Notable for its automatic bumper mechanism, sweep seconds hand, and Incabloc shock protection system, this movement represents a significant advancement in Swiss watchmaking technology of the post-war era.
Tissot, established in 1853 in Le Locle, Switzerland, was among the pioneering firms to develop such reliable automatic movements. The watch’s historical significance is further enhanced by its connection to the evolution of horological institutions in America, as the Horological Institute of America (founded October 20-21, 1921) later merged with the United Horological Association of America in 1960 to form the American Watchmakers Institute (AWI), which established standards that influenced watchmaking practices worldwide.
