Ref. 6241 Stainless Steel So-Called "Paul Newman" Rolex, ?Cosmograph, Daytona", Ref. 6241. Made in 1969. Very fine and rare, water-resistant, stainless steel gentleman's wristwatch with round button chronograph, registers, anti-reflective black bezel with tachometer and a stainless steel Oyster bracelet. Accompanied by a fitted box and the original guarantee (now void).

C. Three-body, polished and brushed, screwed-down case back and crown, tachometer graduation on the bezel to 200 units per hour. D. Bicolored off-white and black with luminous square steel indexes, outer white minute/seconds divisions on a black chapter ring, subsidiary dials for the seconds, the 12-hour and 30-minute registers. Luminous steel "baton" hands. M. Cal. 722-1, rhodium-plated, 17 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, free-sprung monometallic balance adjusted to 3 positions, shock absorber, self-compensating Breguet balance spring, Microstella regulating screws. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 37 mm. Thickness 14 mm.

Ref. 6241 This reference appeared in the Rolex catalogue in 1969 and 1970. The ?Exotic? dial, the so-called ?Paul Newman? only appeared in the Rolex catalogue during these years. Paul Newman A Hollywood veteran whose career has spanned decades, Paul Newman is one of the film industry?s biggest and most beloved stars. Newman received a special honorary Oscar in 1985 and a Best Actor Oscar the following year for his performance in ?The Color of Money?. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1925, Newman began his acting career with a local children?s drama group. On his eighteenth birthday he enlisted in the Navy, spending three years as a radioman on torpedo bombers in the Pacific. After graduating from college, he enrolled in Yale drama school. In 1958 Newman married actress Joanne Woodward. He has directed his wife in several films, such as the 1968 ?Rachel, Rachel?, for which he was nominated for an Oscar as producer, and the 1987 adaptation of Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie. A philanthropist and activist, in 1998, Newman started the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, for children with serious illnesses; it is located in Connecticut.
