So-called "Paul Newman" Rolex, Cosmograph "Daytona", Ref. 6239 with steel bezel. Made circa 1962. Very fine and rare, water-resistant, stainless steel gentleman's wristwatch with round button chronograph, registers and tachometer, and a stainless steel Rolex Oyster riveted bracelet.

C. Three-body, polished and brushed, screwed-down case back and crown, tachometer graduation on the bezel to 300 units per hour. D. Bi-colored matte silver and black with applied steel tritium-coated indexes, subsidiary dials for the seconds, the 12- hour and 30-minute registers. Tritium-coated steel "bâton" hands. M. Cal. 72 B, rhodium-plated, 17 jewels, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance adjusted to three positions, shock-absorber, self-compensating Breguet balancespring, Microstella regulating screws. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 36 mm. Thickness: 13 mm.

The present watch was updated, probably during routine servicing, at which time it was fitted with a bezel graduated for 300 units. This was a common occurrence with Cosmograph Daytona watches. Ref. 6239 Manufactured from 1961 to 1976, the first models featured non screw-down round chronograph buttons. The screwed-down buttonswere introduced circa 1970.
