POITEVIN PERPETUAL CALENDAR & CHRONOGRAPH WATCH YELLOW GOLD B. Poitevin, No. 35679. Made circa 1890. Very fine and rare, large, heavy 18K yellow gold and enamel, hunting-cased, keyless pocket watch with gold wheel train, perpetual calendar, chronograph and moon phase.
Four-body, "bassine et filet", matte and polished, the hinged and sprung front cover with red and blue champlevé enamel monogram, button in the band at 12 for the start/ stop and return-to-zero functions of the chronograph. Hinged gold cuvette with engraved dedication, glazed gold-rimmed cover over the movement. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, outermost fifths of a second divisions with Arabic five-second numerals, subsidiary dials for the days of the week, the months with leap-year indication, the date and the seconds, aperture for the moon phase with lunar calendar on the periphery. Yellow gold spade hands. 20''', rhodium plated, 21 jewels, gold wheel train, counterpoised straight line calibrated lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance with temperature and meantime adjustment screws, Breguet balance-spring, index regulator. Cuvette signed and numbered.
