Tiffany & Co. and Patek Philippe Tiffany & Co and Patek Philippe have enjoyed a very long history together. It all began in 1851, when founders of the two companies, Antoine Norbert de Patek in Geneva and Charles Lewis Tiffany in New York shook hands to establish their partnership. Since then, they have continuously maintained a successful relationship. In most recent history, Patek Philippe celebrated its 150th anniversary with Tiffany & Co., by producing a limited edition Reference 5150 also known as the « T-150 » in yellow gold, pink gold, and in white gold. This present reference 2499/100 is part of the Fourth Series made in the early 1980's by Patek Philippe. Bearing the signature of the famous New York jewelery retailer, it is part of a very exclusive series known in existence. The fact that very few Reference 2499 were ever made, the present example with the retailer's signature on the dial makes this piece an extremely rare combination and would be considered as the ultimate trophy for watch collectors worldwide. Reference 2499 Reference 2499 is considered as one of the most iconic models ever produced by Patek Philippe. Over the past several decades, this reference has become the most collectible model of all complicated timepices made by the famous Swiss watchmaker. Introduced in the market in the early 1950's, this reference replaced the famous Reference 1518, the first ever perpetual calendar and chronograph wristwatch made in a series by the brand. This model was produced for over a period of 35 years, until the early 1980's concluding its run with the Fourth Series, as seen as in this present lot. To our knowledge 349 pieces were made in total during its production run, the majority of them encased in yellow gold. Approximately 9 pieces were produced each year at the ateliers in Geneva, with very few signed with the retailers' names on the dial.
