Gideon & Co., Locle, No. 15096, Swiss, made for the Indian Market, circa 1890. Very fine 18K gold and enamel hunting cased, diamond set, moon phase astronomical, keyless minute repeating watch with triple calendar and chronograph.
C. Four body, massive, "bassine et filets", frosted, the band and bezels engraved with formal decoration, the cover centred with a painted champleve enamelled steeplechase jockey jumping over a diamond set obstacle, the back decorated en suite with a painted champleve enamelled horse rider jumping through a diamond inlaid horseshoe. Hinged gold cuvette engraved with the prize awarded at the 1889 Paris Exhibition and with technical details. D. White enamel with Roman numerals, outer Arabic minute and chronograph rings, sunk subsidiary dials for the dates and the subsidiary seconds with moon phase aperture, apertures for clays of the week and months. Blued steel "spade " hands. M. Glased 18 -, frosted and gilt, 32 jewels, straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance, Breguet balance spring. Chronograph with visible work, and push-piece in the band. Repeating on gongs with push piece in the band. Signed on the cuvette. Diam. 58 mm
