French, circa 1850. Fine and unusual, gilt and silvered bronze eight day going, hour and half-hour striking automaton clock.

The movement is fitted in the rectangular, silvered bronze base, standing on four gilt bronze paws and applied with gilt bronze acanthus foliage decoration, the bezel designed as a wreath of foliage. Gilt bronze figure of a Turk at the top, riding a silvered horse and kidnapping a young European beauty. D. Gilt bronze, engine-turned with Roman numerals on a silvered chapter ring. Blued steel Breguet hands. M. Brass circular, mouvement de Paris type with going barrel both for the going and the striking trains, anchor escapement, short pendulum with silk suspension. Striking on a bell with count wheel on the back plate. Dim. 53 x 33 x 14 cm.
