Gaultier a Paris, circa 1680. Fine and very rare, ebonised pear wood, tortoiseshell, pewter and brass veneered, eight day going, hour and half-hour striking miniature "Religieuse" with matching base.
C. Rectangular ebonised pear wood on four bronze feet with glazed tortoiseshell veneered side panel, the pewter veneered face with arched pediment inlaid with engraved brass foliage decoration and topped by three bronze finials. Ebonised moulded rectangular base. D. Brass silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals and Arabic minute ring, applied on the black velvet lined dial plate, the signature engraved on a drapery shaped cartouche below. Polished steel Louis XIV hands. M. Brass rectangular with canted lower corners and turned pillars, double tooth going barrel driving both the going and the striking trains, verge escapement, short pendulum with silk suspension. Striking on a bell at the top of the cabinet, with count wheel on the back plate. Signed on the cartouche below the dial and on the back plate. Dim. 17,5 x 17,5 x 12 cm.
