Attributed to Henri Golay, Genève , No. 3984, circa 1850. Fine and rare 18K gold, enamel and rose diamond-)set silk-lined book-form purse and carnet de bal fitted with a watch and a gold propelling pencil.

Three-body, hinged, both sides decorated with foliate and scroll engraving on engine turned background, the spring loaded coverconcealing the watch with translucent dark blue enamel, rose cut diamond set flowers, the back with a similar translucent dark blueenamel panel with a rose cut diamond monogram, hinged enamel and diamond set clasp, the inside of the purse fitted with two creammoire silk compartments and an ivory carnet de bal. Propelling pencil held in two rings. D. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outerminute divisions. Blued steel ?spade? hands. M. 21 x 34.5 mm., rectangular with arched top, 10 jewels, cylinder escapement, plain giltthree-arm balance, flat balance spring, regulator adjustable through a slot in the case on the dial side.Stamped 3984 on the movement. Dim. 82 x 57 mm.
