France, circa 1890. Extremely rare and important, gilt bronze and black marble, eight day going, hour and half-hour striking mantel regulator with centre seconds and gravity escapement.

C. Black marble, gilt brass mounted, "corniche", glazed on four faces. D. White enamel chapter ring with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring, the escapement exposed at the centre. Blued steel Breguet hands. M. Gilt brass circular, Mouvement de Paris type, the blank by S. Marti & Cie. with going barrel both on the going and the striking trains, rare type of gravity escapement drawn from that presented at the Paris Exhibition in 1855, but with a double escape wheel, counterpoised half second beating pendulum with steel rod, gilt brass and crystal bob and elaborated cross spring suspension. Dim. 44 x 27 x 18 cm.
