Chanelle, French, circa 1640. Fine gilt-metal and rock crystal octagonal pre-balance spring watch with a contemporary movement.
C. Gilt-brass three piece frame. Hinged faceted rock crystal cover, back and band, loosering pendant and button finial. D. Gilt-brass dial finely engraved with a winged angel and foliage, the chapter ring with Roman numerals. Single later blued-steel hand. M. Hinged contemporary oval gilt-brass full plate with turned urn pillars, fusee with a later chain, three wheel train, verge escapement, later balance without spring, irregular oval foliage pierced and engraved cock secured by a screw, with steel click for the ratchet wheel set-up. Signed on the back plate. Dim. 50 x 26 mm.
