ANGELUS CLOCK AND SINGING BIRD BOX Angelus, Swiss, the bird box attributed to Griesbaum, Germany. Made circa 1950 in the style of the late 19th century. Fine, repoussé brass singing bird box with Angelus 8 day clock. Accompanied by a key.
C. Rectangular with repoussé relief decoration of four sheep feeding on grass amongst trees and fl ower garlands, the sides similarly decorated with lakes scenes, the hinged bird cover with two ladies and a gentleman playing amongst trees and fl ower, the front of the box with the clock, the body lifts to reveal a small compartment. D. Brushed silver with applied gilt Arabic indexes. Gilt dauphine hands. M. Singing bird movement: going barrel, rectangular belows, Griesbaum whistle, the bird rotating and moving wings, tail and beak, controlled by a rack and two cams mounted beneath the barrel, silver grille engraved with foliage, activated by a slide in the side of the case. The clock: 8 day going barrel, straight line lever escapement, index regulator. Dim. 10 x 9 x 6.5 cm.
