THE COUNTRY COUPLE Ls. Favre à Berlin (Swiss), No. 3426. Made circa 1795. Fine, gold, painted on enamel and pearl-set pocket watch with a fine gold and enamel three-strand chatelaine.
C. Two-body, Directoire, pearl-set bezel, the back set with an en grisaille painted on enamel scene of a young couple in a woodland arbour, translucent royal blue enamel ground over engine-turning, white and gold border, outer pearl-set border. Hinged and sprung gilt metal cuvette fi xed to the movement ring. D. White enamel with Arabic numerals, outer dot minute divisions and Arabic 15-minute numerals. Pierced gold graduated circle hands. M. 50 mm., matte gilt, standing barrel, engraved bridges, cylinder escapement, three-arm brass balance, fl at balance spring, index regulator, polished steel endplate. Dial and cuvette signed. Diam. 55 mm.
