THE MANDOLIN Swiss, Genève, No. 383. Made circa 1810. Very fine and rare, 18K gold, enamel and pearl-set form watch with concealed dial and visible balance, designed as a mandolin.
C. Two-body, "fermée" type, the sound-board chased and engraved with a seated cherub, fl owers and foliage, glazed sound-hole displaying the balance cock and balance, pearl-set border, the neck with blue enamel diaper decoration, the vaulted back with alternating sections of champlevé enamel in blue and yellow, green and black and black and white, wire strings with pearl-set pegs, gold suspension chain. D. White enamel, Arabic numerals. Gold spear hands. M. 20 mm, hinged, gilt brass full-plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement with micrometric potence adjustment, plain three-arm brass balance, continental cock , silver regulator plate. Dim. 58 x 25 mm.
