Duval & Mathieu à Rouen, circa 1778. A rare 18-carat gold cased small self-winding watch with special escapement.
Double body polished case, bearing the Hall Marks for the ' Fermiers Généraux" J. B. Fouache and D. Compant, with the crownd " P " for 1778. White enamel dial with Roman numerals and concentric Arabic minute ring. Gold "poker" and "beetle" hands. Good full plate inverted movement with going barrel, virgule escapement, three armed plain brass balance beneath the dial. Gold winding weight engraved with the signature, pivoted on the edge of the back plate. Very good condition. Diam. 44 mm.
