Julien Le Roy, No. 4243, circa 1768. Important three coloured gold quarter dumb repeating watch, produced after the death of Julien by his son, the eminent Pierre Le Roy.

Double body case the back with three coloured gold chased gardening trophies and further decoration. Fine white enamel dial, bearing the signature with Roman numerals and concentric Arabic minute ring ( very small hair cracks). Gold pierced Louis XV hands. Dial rim engraved with the inscription: "Inventé par Jul. Le Roy en 1740 et le rouage 1755". Full plate movement, signed and numbered on the back plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, three armed plain steel balance, gilt metal clock pierced and engraved with the monogram "J. L. R ", steel endpiece. Strinking train with a small anchor escapement used as a regulator. In good condition. Diam. 46 mm.

Notes

Soon after the death of his father, in 1759, Pierre Le Roy, who has never signed with his own name, always used the cock with the monogram "J. L. R. " in order to honoured his father's memory. Wery good example of a Julien Le Roy repeating watch.
