William Webster, London, No. 1451, circa 1700. 18-carat gold pair cased quarter repeating clock watch.
Double body outer case, pierced and engraved with scrolls, repoussé with a mythological scene and four family portraits (restored). Inner bassine case, pierced and engraved with an angel's head and inhabited foliage. Gilt brass dust cap. Gold champlevé dial with Roman numerals and concentric Arabic minute ring, inner aperture for strike and silent indication. Blued steel "poker" and "beetle" hands. Full plate movement with baluster pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain three armed steel balance, English cock with diamond endstone. Striking train with fixed barrel, striking and repeating on a bell when depressing the pendant. In good condition. Diam. 55 mm.
