The Rose Gatherer Geneva, Swiss, No. 4974. Made for the Chinese market, circa 1790. Very fine and rare, 18K gold, polychrome enamel and gold paillon-decorated pocket watch.
C. Two-body, Directoire, the bezel decorated with white and blue enamel and silver and blue paillons in a repeating pattern, polished band, the back decorated with a finely painted polychrome enamel scene of a young lady seated in a garden making a rose garland, royal blue translucent enamel background over sunray engine-turning, gold, silver and blue paillon and enamel border. D. White enamel with upright Arabic numerals, outer dot minute divisions, Arabic quarter-hour numerals, winding arbour at 2. Gold fluted fleur-de-lys hands. M. 44 mm., frosted gilt, full plate, conical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement with micrometric potence adjustment, three-arm brass balance, blued steel flat balance spring, continental-type balance cock, polished steel endplate, silvered regulation dial. Diam. 50 mm.
