Piguet & Meylan, Geneve, made for the Chinese market circa 1815. Extremely fine, 18K gold and enamel pearl set quarter repeating musical watch with center seconds.
Four body "basket" case with split pearl set enamel bezel, band, pendant and bow, the enamel back with a very fine polychrome painted portrait of a young gentle-man with a palmist. Gold cuvette with champleve enamelled musical trophies and further floral decoration on a light blue ground. Small offset white dial with Roman numerals on a gold enamel dial plate finely painted with a landscape, on the foreground, an applied chased yellow gold Cupid is riding a pink gold lion. Blued steel "scoties" hands. Gilt brass double train movement with a going barrel, inverted cylinder escapement with a plain brass three armed balance. Musical train with a pointed disc and 19 vibrating steel blades. Repeating on gongs by means of the depressing pendant. In very good condition. Diam. 57 mm.
