Sidney Better, made for the Northern Goldsmiths Company, Watchmakers to the Lord of the Admiralty, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, N° 2052, bearing the London Hall Marks for 1902-1903. Extremely rare and important 18K gold hunting cased keyless pocket chronometer with an eccentric minute tourbillon regulator.

Four body massive "pomme et bassine" polished case. Gold cuvette. Fine white enamel dial with Arabic numerals and subsidiary seconds. Blued steel "pear" hands. Glazed very fine gilt brass three quarter plate movement, 15 jewels, one screwed setting, straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance, blued steel balance spring with a terminal curve, free sprung. The escapement is set in an offset position in the three polished steel armed cage of the one minute revolving tourbillon, driven by the center wheel. Such a position of the escapement in the cage of the tourbillon is highly unusual, it was calculated to equilibrate the weight of the escapement. Signed on the dial and the back plate. In very good condition. Diam. 56 mm.
