Haas Le Jeune, Geneve, No. 1779, circa 1900. Very fine and historically important 18K hunting cased keyless minute repeating moonphase astronomical watch with perpetual calendar and chronograph of Royal origin, in original Brazilian rosewood fitted case and with certificate.

Four body massive "demi-bassine et filets" polished case, the cover engraved with a monogram below the royal crown. The back with a monogram. Gold cuvette engine turned on the edge. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer Arabic minute and chronograph rings, subsidiary dials for the days of the week, the months with leap year cycle, the dates and the seconds with an inner moon phase aperture. Gold "spa-de" hands. Very fine nickel plated 18? movement, "fausses cotes" decoration, 36 jewels, equilibrated straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance, Breguet balance spring. Repeating on gongs by means of a slide on the band. The chronograph with a visible work, the pushpiece on the band. Signed on the cuvette. In very good condition. Diam. 56 mm.

Notes

This watch was presented by the King of Bulgaria to a Bulgarian general. During World War II and after the death of the general, his widow gave it to her Jewish doctor who had been fetched in the concentration camp to take care of her health.
