Adoration of the MagiS(amue)l Ruel, Rotterdam, No. 464, circa 1770.Fine and rare 18K gold pair-cased chatelaine watch with date and false pendulum.

C. Outer: two-body, repoussé with a scene depicting the Adoration of the Magi, the bezel repoussé with rocailles. Inner: two-body, "bassine", gold chatelaine with three panels, the top one repoussé with Mars, Venus and Cupid, the middle one with a Cupid and a lion, and the bottom one with conquered lion, two chains on the sides for a key and a seal. D. Gold, champlevé Roman numerals, outer arched minute ring with five-minute Arabic markers on polished cartouches, the center chased with a Cupid ad a tree with date aperture below. Gold "Louis XV" hands. M. 34,9 mm, hinged, gilt full plate with square baluster pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement plain brass balance with flat balance-spring, continental cock chased with a Cupid holding geometrical instruments with aperture for the false pendulum.Signed on dial and movement.Diam. 48 mm.
