Daniel Roth ?Tourbillon Date Retrograde Double Face? Pièce Unique.

EUR 0 - 0

Sold: EUR 42,000

A Tourbillon Retrograde Date adorned with a unique dial Mid-way between a cyclical and a linear vision of time, the retrograde date mechanism offers an intriguing display on the dial of this second exceptional double-face model. The dial specially created for the occasion and built on a plate in 4N pink gold, displays indications of the hours, seconds and date featuring a satin-brushed 4N pink gold finish, while the frosty blue dial base is decorated with a sunray-guilloché motif. The hour and minute hands in flame-blued steel glide over a section of the hour-circle in Roman numerals extending from VIII to IV only, leaving ample room at 6 o'clock for the tourbillon carriage and for the seconds hand with T-shaped counterweight (echoing the T in Roth), that can be seen on its axis. The DR 730 mechanical 34-jewel hand-wound tourbillon movement driving these stunning dial displays also operates the 64-hour powerreserve on the back of the movement, which can be viewed through the see-through back of the 41 mm Daniel Roth double-ellipse case. As on all Daniel Roth watches, the movement is decorated and finished in harmony with the noblest traditions of Haute Horlogerie. Very much in the spotlight on this piece, the tourbillon carriage is specular-polished to enhance its radiant revolutions. The open back is protected by a sapphire crystal glareproofed inside for optimal readability. Technical description DR 730 double-face hand-wound tourbillon movement, 34 jewels, 64-hour power reserve, 21,600 vph, high-end finishing (stippled mainplate, bridges specially decorated for this model with a sunray-guilloché motif, as well as bevelled, hand-drawn and smoothed flanks and surfaces). 4N pink gold dial with off-centred hours and minutes, retrograde date display on the same axis, tourbillon carriage opening with small seconds on tourbillon axis moving over dedicated ring. 4N pink gold case with power visible on the case-back. Hand-stitched alligator-leather midnight blue coloured strap with 4N pink gold pin buckle.

Notes

While undoubtedly riding a current wave of popularity and interpreted in all possible shapes and forms, the tourbillon in its noblest sense remains one of the most amazing horological accomplishments. Based on the principle devised byAbraham-Louis Breguet over 200 years ago which consists of placing the regulating organs within a mobile carriage which spins in order to compensate for the effects of gravity in various positions, this sophisticated mechanism continues to fascinate and appeal to lovers of fine watchmaking. Daniel Roth now offers the generous donors and collectors who will take part in the bidding on behalf of the Monegasque Association against Muscular Dystrophies a watch fitted with a double-face movement driving functions on both sides of the watch and thus involving exceedingly complex procedures in terms of assembling the movement, hands and dial, as well as casing up.
