"Quarter-Repeating a Toc" Gregson, H.ger du Roy, a Paris, No. 797. Made circa 1780. Very fine, 20K gold and painted on enamel, quarter-repeating a toc pocket watch.
C. Two-body, "Louis XVI", spring-loaded bezel released by a concealed pin-catch, decorated with a leaf and berry pattern highlighted with green and red translucent enamel, white enamel line borders, the back decorated with an en grisaille painted on enamel oval of a cherub within a flower arbor, applied gold detail, white enamel bead border and outer translucent green guilloche enamel border, further border decorated to match the bezel. D. White enamel, Dauphine numerals, outer dot minute divisions, Arabic quarter-hour numerals. Gold "beetle & poker" hands. M. 31 mm., gilt full plate, turned pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance, flat balance spring, continental balance cock, polished steel endplate, silver regulation dial, repeating on blocks on the side of the case activated by depressing the pendant. Dial and movement signed, case punched with "JAA" mastermark. Dim. 40 mm.
