An original printed copy of the infamous act which levied duties of 5s on a clock, 10s on a gold watch and 2s 6d on a silver watch. Although the influence of the act, which was said to have halved the horological work-force of the country, has doubtless been much exaggerated, outcry against it was so great that it was repealed only 9 months after being promulgated.
