Notes

RUSSEL & Son - Thomas Russell & Son claimed in their publicity to have been established in 1797. Makers to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, they held a royal warant from 1858 onwards and were established in Slater St Liverpool from at least 1860. The firm continued in business until about 1945. In parallel, from 1872 onwards until about 1932, they held premises in London. In their chronometers they used Poole's and Kullberg's auxiliaries, and Hartnup's balance and produced a machine-made lever escapement.
