M.I. Tobias & Co., Liverpool, No. 6013, with Chester hallmarks for 1824. Fine 18 ct. gold pair cased stop-watch with first Massey lever escapement.

C. hmer and outer, double body, polished, botte marked "T.H/J.H". D. White enamel with Roman numerals and seconds dial at chapter VI, the hand showing half seconds and turning in fifteen. Gold "pear" bands. M. Hinged gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain and maintaining power, type I Massey lever escapement with 30 tooth escape wheel, plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass cock with intricately engraved decoration, "Patent" and "Detach'd", diamond endstone. Balance stop lever projecting through bezel. Gilt brass dust-cap. Signed on the back plate. In very good condition. Diam. 56 mm.

Note: The inscription "Patent" and "Detach'd" on the balance cock, refers to the invention of the detached form of lever escapement patented by Edward Massey in 1815. Good example of a watch with a Massey lever escapement employing a 30 tooth escape wheel like sonie of the rack-levers.
