Rundell & Bridge, London, No. 3454, probably by Vulliamy, with London hallmarks for 1802. Very fine 18 ct. gold, hunting cased watch of Royal provenance with special escapement.

C. Four body, massive, "consular" with integral dome, polished, marked "I.M." (presumably Jonah Mince), the caver with the engraved coat-ofarms of the Duc de Chartres. D. White enamel with Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds. Gold "pear" bands, M. Hinged gilt brass full plate with ttuned pillars, fusee with chain and maintaining power, duplex escapement, plain flat polished steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring with bimetallic compensation curb on the slide. Gilt brass cock engraved with a mask, the food diamond endstone. Gi1t brass dust cap. Signed on the dust cap and brick plate. h1 very good condition. Diam. 53 mm.

Provenance: From the estate of the Duchess of Nemours, wife of Louis Charles Philippe d'Orléans, Duke of Nemours, the Second son of Louis Philippe. Note: This watch is engraved with the coat-of-arms of the Duc de Chartres who was to become King of France, taking the naine of Louis Philippe . It was certainly bought during his stay in England from 1801 to 1807, while in exile. It was sold by Rundell and Bridge who were goldsmiths to the King of England. Although signed by this eminent retailers, due to its quality and technical features such as the duplex escapement and compensation curb, the movement was ahnost certainly made by Vulliamy, then Watchmaker to the King.
