?On The Bosphorus? Markwick Markham, Perigal, London, No. 41618, London. Made for the Islamic market, circa 1815. Very fine and rare 18K gold and painted on enamel triple-cased pocket watch with quarter repeating.
C. Outer: two-body, glazed back, scalloped edges, bezels decorated with pale blue, green, red and white enamel and pierced stylised flower heads. Middle: two-body, scalloped edges, pierced bezel decorated with green, blue, red and white enamel, back painted with a harbor scene with fully rigged ships and lighthouse under an opalescent sky, red translucent enamel and pierced border decorated to match the bezel. Inner: two-body, hinged polished bezel, the body with foliate pierced band and centered with a rosette. D. White enamel, Islamic numerals, minute track and Islamic five-minute numerals. Gold ?beetle and poker? hands. M. 25 mm., frosted gilt fullplate with baluster pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, steel balance wheel, pierced and chased foliate cock with diamond endstone, gilt dust ring, repeating on a later bell activated by depressing the pendant. Dial and movement signed. Inner case with faux London hallmarks. Diam. 48 mm.
