Jaquet Droz, Grande Seconde Algue Petrifiée, Numerus Clausus of 1.
The Grande Seconde Algue Pétrifiée belongs to the Hommage Genève 1784 collection which is directly inspired by an 18th century model. It features two off-centered subdials, one for the hours and minutes and the other for the large seconds display, elegantly framed by a white gold ring that is beveled, drawn out with a fi le and secured by blued screws. Its most striking feature is of course the dial base crafted from petrifi ed algae, originating from Australia. At an estimated age of 3.5 billion years, it is the world?s oldest form of plant life. The curving 18-carat white gold case measuring a diameter of 43 mm is enhanced by a domed crystal. Visible through the transparent case-back, the sunburst motif of the 22-carat gold oscillating weight as well as the ?Côtes de Genève? decorative pattern on the bridges and plate vividly illustrate the know-how of the master-watchmakers within the Manufacture. Parmigiani Fleurier, The Exclusive IONICA Timepiece in Honour of Dr. Duchenne, Pièce Unique.
Exclusively for the Only Watch 2005 project Parmigiani Fleurier present a specially created one-of-a-kind watch. This model from the INICA collection is driven by a mechanical hand-wound mouvement, PF Calibre 110, entirely developed and manufactured by Parmigiani Fleurier. The power-reserve indication system visible on the 18-carat dial is unique in the world and has been duly patented. The extremely refined 18-carat pink gold case is entirely crafted by hand in-house and is distinguished by a double back with a protective cover adorned with an engraving inside depicting Dr. Guillaume Benjamin Amand Duchenne. An engraving on the outside also pays tribute to this distinguished personality. The Ionica timepiece is fitted with a Hermès strap and features specifically designed lugs which make it an ideally comfortable fit on the wrist.

The two-tone silvery dial features rose gold baton indexes and two applied Breguet-style numerals at 12 o?clock. The subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o?clock emulates the square shape of the case. The ?feuille? (leaf-shaped) hour and minute hands are crafted from rose gold. The deep-blue ?galuchat? strap is provided with a rose gold pin buckle. The hinged cover of the watch is engraved and set with precious stones to reflect the theme Recovery and Hope. Its symbolic elements are as follows: ? The sun is represented by 7 yellow sapphire stones that stand for hope, strength, and shining energy. ? The moon, intrinsically linked with the sun, is symbolized by 5 diamonds. It expresses sensitivity, protection, and love. ? The large diamond-paved heart denotes charity, openness, and generosity. ? The small heart, paved with 6 yellow sapphire stones, represents the child?s heart from which a ray points to the future, toward evolution and compassion. ? The horizon, represented by 7 widening horizontal bands, is a symbol of hope and the path to recovery. This watch is a unique piece.

Taking its cue from the world of art, where one-of-a-kind contemporary artists make one-of-a-kind works of art, Swatch has created Charme de Crystal, a chic and sophisticated SKIN?with a difference. Charme de Crystal is the only one of its kind, an absolutely individual piece (in the art world, such works are known as ?monotypes?). Clearly a limited edition, its uniqueness is underscored by the ?1/1? edition mark engraved on the back of the case. The adjustable stainless steel bracelet forms a set of arching loops linked by Aurora Borealis coloured crystals mounted in steel settings. Crystals hung on either side of the classic transparent plastic SKIN case are of the same Aurora Borealis colour. The dial has a silver sun-brushed effect and is decorated with a relief pattern that recalls and playfully takes up the bracelet?s arching loops.
